Andrew studied Geography at St John’s College, Oxford and then completed a Master’s Degree in Real Estate Finance at Cambridge University. Before the law Andrew spent several years in London working for some of the biggest names in the commercial property industry. During this time he also completed an Investment Management Certificate so he would be FCA regulated to manage investments.
Andrew’s legal career began as a paralegal in the real estate team at Travers Smith. He completed his training contract in the London office of Dundas & Wilson and on qualification joined the BrookStreet Des Roches team dealing with National Grid’s property portfolio. He has spent the last five years working as a commercial property solicitor in the Oxford office of Bower Bailey.
Andrew’s expertise covers the following areas (amongst others):
Buying and selling both freehold and leasehold properties covering retail, office and industrial sectors (including auction sales)
Acting for both landlords and tenants on the grant or assignment of commercial leases
Dealing with various other leasehold transactions such as licences to sub-let, licences to alter, surrenders and deeds of variation
Dealing with matters concerning renewal of leases under the Landlord & Tenant Act 1954
Acting for both mortgagor and mortgagee on the finance aspects of new purchases and re-mortgages
Buying and selling businesses via asset purchase agreements or providing corporate support on share purchase agreements
Acting for both landowners and operators on the grant of occupational rights relating to utilities (e.g. solar panels, gas pipelines, electricity substations or telecoms masts)
Dealing with the transfer of commercial buildings into trust structures (e.g. SSASs or SIPPs)
Dealing with property matters related to agricultural land (e.g. FBTs and 1986 Act tenancies)
Dealing with the transfer or leasing of specialist commercial buildings such as public houses, cinemas, bowling alleys, doctors’ surgeries and petrol stations.
Sorting out alcohol licencing applications both for new licence applications and the transfer of existing licences
Applying for first registrations and rights obtained from long use
Dealing with insolvency related property matters such as charging orders or the appointment of fixed charge receivers.
